The K-9 unit was formed with a three-man and three-dog unit. Training began in August, with graduation on November 11, 1974. The first K-9 units were Officer Tony Bill and King, Officer Fred Freeman and Baron and Officer Richard Mohr and Cannon. Sgt. Virgil Oliver and Sarge was the unit commander. Officer Dennis Romstadt and Joe, Officer Bill Shinavar and Rommel and Officer Chester Wolf and Deesha were added to the K-9 unit at a later date. The unit would continue until it was disbanded on September 3, 1981. The unit was re-established in 2013
